Icom NZ launches its IP Radio – a first for New Zealand

Icom has launched the IP100H, an IP (Internet Protocol) radio that is unique in New Zealand.

The IP100H is a licence free radio that works over wireless LAN (local area networks) and IP networks. The radio offers secure conversation via WLAN (wireless local area network) security protocols. It's capable of building-wide communications but also has an internal antenna for short-range transmission.

The range of the IP100H is only restricted by the users' IP network coverage and communication can extend from the basement to the top floor of a multi-storey building. If connected over an internet VPN (virtual private network), Icom's IP system expands communication to dispersed sites. Using Icom's VE-PG3 RoIP (radio over IP) gateway, the IP radio system can interconnect with IP phones as well as analogue and IDAS™ digital transceivers and even smartphones.

When connected to a headset the IP100H is capable of hands-free, full duplex communication which allows users to transmit/receive (talk/hear) concurrently.

The IP100H is lightweight, easy to handle and waterproof (IPX7 rated).

These radios are ideal for organisations that, due to cost issues and only needing a relatively small coverage requirement, usually use licence-free radios. However, typical problems with this include; interference, lack of privacy, limited calling features and communication instability due to peer to peer communications in the busy shared band. Because the IP100H uses wireless LAN protocol, these issues are addressed giving clear and stable communications as well as privacy.

Typical user organisations include hospitals, casinos, hotels and service, warehouse, manufacturing and retail industries etc.
